Camp GROW celebrated five years of making a difference in the lives of young Antiguans and Barbudans. Camp GROW 2015 was hosted from August 10th- August 21st by the Environmental Awareness Group (EAG) and the Gilbert Agricultural and Rural Development Center (GARD Center). For two weeks, 48 Antiguan children between the ages of 8 – 11 years came together to cultivate an appreciation for, and understanding of, the natural world. This was accomplished through a variety of outdoor and practical learning activities. Camp GROW was geared towards raising the environmental awareness of its participants and offered the teachers and counselors a golden opportunity to work with resourceful and passionate young people.
Local community members and organizations donated their time and expertise, along with staff to assist throughout the process. Camp GROW served to empower youth and inspire leadership through the development of life skills such as decision-making, critical thinking and teamwork. It provided opportunities for campers to have fun and get their hands dirty while developing a relationship with the world around them.
