The
Demonstration Farm
OUR MISSION
To develop and maintain a Demonstration Farm
that serves the OECS Region by providing a place for practical,
hands-on training in sustainable Good Agricultural Practices
(GAP) that protects our natural resources, thereby assisting
the Nation in food security and poverty alleviation.
Objectives
•To
train and demonstrate the use of sustainable agricultural
technologies and processes that protect and enhance the environment
•
To provide training in agricultural entrepreneurial skills
for young people
•
To provide resources on the development and use of agroecological
practices, including organic farming for crop and livestock
systems, soil and water stewardship, biopesticide usage, composting,
use of green manure crops and cover crops, and fertility management
•
To promote and demonstrate the use of small farm equipment
and light tools for women
•
To operate self-sustaining, income-generating projects on
the farm
•
To promote the Demonstration Farm as a farm tourism site GARD
Center occupies 5 acres of the 63.5 acre Gilbert's Estate.
